238- dinner at our friends Martin and Liz’s tonight and I was very excited. Los is a fantastic cook and we were treated to a roast tomato soup with homemade bread, braised pheasant and both tiramisu and fresh fruit meringues for desert. Obviously this was gracefully accompanied with a festival of wine and followed with cheese.
With everything that’s gone in lately I’ve realised how much I enjoyed just spending time with people I like. We ate, we drank and we chatted. Perfection.
Last night we were guests of Janet and Jon at their first supper club in Cardiff. The produce came from Riverford with bread from a great artisan bakery and the culinary skills of Bev Reed.
The food was served on the tables in massive bowls with everyone helping themselves to steaming piles of beautiful veg and a lamb dish. We get so used to being served meals in restaurants it was quite odd at first passing the mash to the stranger next to you and asking another to hand over the carrots. But this definitely encourages conversation and the atmosphere of the evening was very that of a big family meal.
For dessert we had rhubarb tarts which were absolutely amazing. The recipe is a closely guarded secret but I will be looking out for her stall at farmers markets.
It was a lovely evening and I was able to catch up with some friends that I don’t see enough!
